Okay it’s not my first game. ‘coz I don’t remember what my first game is.
So I’m going to remake a Global Game Jam I made before with a team, called “Dog Days” (yes, after the Florence and the Machine song). The theme that year was “Ritual”, so we created a day in the life of a dog, in “Everyday the Same Dream” style.
I honestly don’t remember how we ended up with the dog idea. Oh, although since it was a replacement work day, and we ended up with 4 programmers, an all around person, and with my lil sis as an artist that only showed up half the time. So I made the first draft of the art and my lil sis beautified it.
Dog Days
Created for Global Game Jam 2016, with the theme “Ritual” #ggj16
The repetitive life of a dog.
There’s lots of things a dog will meet everyday.
Maybe a ball, a puddle or a charming girlfriend. Ha ha, who knows?
As a dog, you can do what ever you want, play outside crazily all day or pursuing the one you fall in love with.
However, never forget the sweet and warm home is always waiting for you.
No matter what you choose to do, there’s only one thing important — what you do decide where you end. So decide it by yourself, either home or tramp.

I revisited the Global Game Jam website and turns out we applied a diversifier: “No retreat, no surrender!: The protagonist is unable to go anywhere but forward, in every situation.” And that’s why our character can only go forward.
One of our good friends even recorded a live stream of our presentation:
So I’m going to remake the game, following the life of a depressed person (in line with my other project).
It will follow the same game flow, you can walk forward and you can see in the background the day changes from morning to night. There will be objects that you can interact with and it will affect the outcome of the game.
But I might change the controls a bit to be more mobile like.
So here I go!
I start off with figuring what are the different “scenes”. Then I block them out, and then an excuse to play “The Sims”, I placed some furniture, and then I used that as a reference to draw over.
Experimenting with art styles…
Now I need to do this for all the scenes…
For the navigation of the game, for some reason, I thought of this video of “Once Upon a Me” by Hatsune Miku, and how Miku “walks” from left to right, and the scenes flash past.
Some character, environment and navigation work in progress…
Ahh…. I have failed #RemakeJam, I tried to do too much and I spent too much time pondering about it, and I ran out of time. 😦 😦 😦
Sigh… But the game goes on.
